Craig County VINELink Coverage
Craig County does not operate its own stand-alone jail. People detained on Craig matters are held at Botetourt–Craig Regional Jail in Fincastle. The relevant notification layer is Virginia Jail VINE at VINELink, which accepts a search for a specific person in local or regional jail custody. It can report the available custody status and location and can attach notification registration to a matching record.
VINELink is a prospective search and alert service, not the official release certificate. The jail’s record remains the source for the actual release time, event type, authorization, and receiving agency when a transfer occurred. A court record may explain the order. These sources should be read together rather than expecting one alert to answer every release question.

Search Craig County VINELink Records
Use the person’s name or offender or booking number. An identifier is safer when the name is common, but any result still needs comparison with the booking facts. The exact wording used for a released result was not verified from a stable official sample, so read the current label on the live record. Do not substitute an expected term such as “Released” or “Discharged.”

- Compare the returned identity, custody location, and reported status with the known Craig County booking.

A scheduled release date should not be added to this table from assumption. VADOC’s separate locator has a release-date field for people under state custody, while the precise label depends on the live state result. The local jail’s actual release date belongs in its release entry.
Note: Save the displayed agency and identifier before registering because those details help resolve a later transfer alert.
Register Craig County Release Notices
Select the correct Jail VINE record before adding a destination. The service supports phone, text, or email. Multiple phone numbers and email addresses may be registered. Each destination should be current and under the registrant’s control. A private four-digit PIN is part of telephone acknowledgment, so it should not be copied from a public example or shared in a public note.
- Open the matched custody record and select the notification-registration option.
- Choose phone, text, or email and enter the destination accurately.
- Create an original four-digit PIN for telephone acknowledgment and store it privately.
- Complete the confirmation shown by the service, then add another destination if needed.
- Update contact details online or call the VINE service when a number or address changes.
For telephone alerts, the official Virginia material says calls originate from a 502 area code and can continue until the recipient answers and enters the PIN or 24 hours passes. For forgotten-PIN help, call 1-800-467-4943 and press 0. Operators are available around the clock.
A notification that is not acknowledged may be repeated, but repetition does not add facts about the destination. Read the event itself and contact the jail if a transfer is possible.
Verify Craig County Release Alerts
Jail VINE events can include release, transfer, escape or recapture, death, work release, and home electronic monitoring. A reported release event can describe movement to another jail or to VADOC. For that reason, the alert is a prompt to confirm, not a final finding that the person returned to the community.

Craig Jail VINE Versus NAAVI
Virginia uses two separate notification tracks. Jail VINE remains the local and regional jail service for Botetourt–Craig. VADOC stopped participating in VINE effective October 1, 2021. Its state-prison victim-notification route is now NAAVI, which is eligibility based and is not a general public replacement for Jail VINE.

The capture anchors the county-specific split: Jail VINE follows the regional-jail record, while state-prison notifications require the current VADOC process.
Registration does not automatically migrate between these systems after transfer. Maintain the Jail VINE registration while the person remains in local custody. If VADOC takes custody, use its locator for public status and VADOC Victim Services for the NAAVI process when eligibility applies.
VADOC Release Notice for Craig
NAAVI can provide qualifying victims with notice of VADOC transfer, anticipated release, actual release, death, name change, work release, escape or recapture, and parole interview or decision. Registration is reviewed under Virginia’s eligibility rules. An approved registrant receives confirmation and may receive an invitation code for the portal.

Craig County VINELink Limits
VINELink does not replace every custody system. It is not the Bureau of Prisons locator. It does not provide a permanent ICE history. It is also not the Craig court docket or Botetourt–Craig’s release record. Each source should be used only for the custody type it covers.

- The end of a Botetourt–Craig booking, proved most directly by the jail entry.
- Transfer
- Movement from one custodian to another, even if the first system reports a release event.
- State discharge
- The end of a VADOC sentence or status shown by state release documents, not ordinary Jail VINE.
- Supervisee
- A person physically in the community but still under VADOC probation or parole oversight.
Data can change between an alert and direct confirmation. Portal wording can also change without notice. Record the exact event label, time received, agency, and identifier, then ask the named custodian what occurred. When a result is missing, do not turn the absence into proof of release.
Federal sentenced custody belongs in the BOP Inmate Locator. A documented immigration transfer belongs in ICE ODLS. A short Craig County booking belongs with Botetourt–Craig, even though the physical facility is outside Craig County.
The VADOC Inmate and Supervisee Locator adds another important boundary. It covers people in state custody or under state supervision and is updated daily, with an agency warning that information may be inaccurate or out of date. Search with the first three letters of the first name and the full last name, or use the seven-digit DOC ID. Optional filters can narrow a common name. A person physically released on probation or parole may remain because supervisees are included. In contrast, VADOC does not promise that a fully discharged inactive person will remain searchable. For that person, request the notification-of-release letter, Order of Release, release authorization, or VACORIS discharge entry. The locator is also not the normal source for a short Craig County regional-jail stay unless VADOC authority applies.
