Craig County Release Feed Status
No official Craig County 24-hour release view was found. Craig detainees are held at Botetourt–Craig Regional Jail in Fincastle, and the public Citizen Connect Inmate Confinements portal offers Current Confinements and Admits by Date Range. The option labeled “Last 24 Hours” belongs to admissions. It identifies people booked during that window, not people discharged from the jail. The local setup has no Releases by Date Range tab.
That distinction changes the search. A person who appears in a 24-hour admit result may still be confined. Someone absent from Current Confinements may have posted bond, completed time, received a court order, transferred to another custodian, or had public access to the record restricted. Roster absence alone cannot resolve which event occurred. The actual release entry, a direct jail confirmation, or a matching receiving-system record is needed.
The Sheriff’s Citizen Connect gateway provides the official route to the portal. Access controls may appear, and neither the portal’s update cadence nor its online retention period has been published.
Check Craig County Releases Today
Begin with the local booking, not a broad name search. Craig County does not operate a stand-alone jail, so Botetourt–Craig holds the physical custody and release entry. The jail’s 24-hour line is 540-928-2314. Its records address is BCSOJailRecords@BotetourtVa.Gov. Ask whether the named booking ended in community release or transfer, and preserve any case number, charge, or approximate booking date that helps staff distinguish records.
- Open Current Confinements and match the person by the same identity used at booking. Treat a result as evidence of current local custody only.
- If no matching confinement appears, call Botetourt–Craig and ask whether that booking ended in release, transfer, or another status.
- Request the existing release entry from jail records when a written record is needed. Ask for the actual date and time, type, booking number, and receiving agency if transferred.
- Check Craig General District or Circuit Court for the order or disposition that may explain why custody ended.
- Use VADOC, BOP, or ICE only when the local record identifies that agency as the next custodian.
A search for one known person is different from a same-day log request. The full Craig County named-person route is covered on the released-inmate search and records hub. Note: Ask the jail about the specific booking because two people with similar names can produce a false match in a public portal.

The current Library of Virginia GS-08 schedule lists inmate incarceration records for confidential destruction three years after separation. That series can include booking sheets, pretrial-release papers, parole notices, photographs, and release documents. It does not mean the web portal keeps names visible for three years. Online display and agency retention are separate.
Craig County Admission Window Trap
The daily-looking portal control is the most distinctive Craig County data issue. Citizen Connect provides Last 24 Hours, Last 7 Days, and a custom admission range of no more than 31 days. Each option sits under Admits by Date Range. Charge and arresting-agency filters can narrow an admission search, but none turns it into a discharge report.

The image supports use of the portal for bookings and present confinement. It does not supply a Craig County daily release feed or prove that a person entered the community.
For a date-based inquiry, ask whether the jail already maintains a release log for the exact interval. Virginia FOIA requires production of existing responsive records, subject to lawful limits, but it does not require staff to create a new custom list. If a log exists, request its date, time, booking-number, event-type, and transfer fields with required redactions.
Craig County Bond Release Types
A same-day Craig County release can result from bond, yet “bonded out” does not explain the final court result. The regional jail’s official bonding guidance separates personal recognizance, unsecured bond, and secured bond. Recognizance rests on a promise to appear without money. An unsecured bond sets an amount that may become due after failure to appear. A secured bond requires approved money or security before release.
The guidance says Virginia bondsman fees are often 10 to 15 percent. That is not the amount set by the court, and it is not a universal fee for every case. More important, none of the three bond routes equals dismissal, acquittal, or sentence completion. Check the Craig court record for the charge, bond order, hearings, and later disposition while using the jail record for the actual physical release event.
Bond paperwork can support the reason for release. The jail entry should still supply the actual time and clarify whether another hold delayed departure after bond was arranged.
Verify Craig County Release Status

The Virginia court case gateway can help explain a Craig release. Search General District first for a misdemeanor or felony preliminary stage, then Circuit Court if a felony proceeded there. Match the case number and charge rather than relying on the name alone.
Note: A released person normally leaves Current Confinements, while a person under parole or probation may remain visible in VADOC as a supervisee.

Virginia Jail VINE at VINELink is the verified mobile notification option for Botetourt–Craig. No sheriff-branded release or roster app was found, and no systematic sheriff social-media release feed was documented. Paytel is used for communication or visitation, not a release list. VINE works best before the expected event because registration follows a specific custody record.
Choose the record, register a phone, text, or email destination, and create a private four-digit PIN. A telephone alert is not acknowledged until that PIN is entered. Calls may continue for up to 24 hours. When the alert arrives, read its event type and call the jail when transfer is possible. Registration does not convert VINE into a durable record of past releases.
For urgent confirmation, the Botetourt Sheriff contact page lists the jail and records channels. A written request is the stronger path when the release time or receiving agency must be documented.
Craig Release After ICE Transfer
An ICE check is appropriate only after a person-specific jail or court record points to immigration custody. No official evidence in the Craig County research established a standing federal or ICE detention contract at Botetourt–Craig. A transfer can still occur in an individual case, so the receiving agency field matters.
ICE’s Online Detainee Locator includes people currently detained and those released from ICE custody during the prior 60 days. Official guidance also warns that current information can lag by up to eight hours. That unusual short archive can assist soon after a documented transfer, but it is not a permanent Craig County release record. A missing result after the listed window says little about older custody.
Use the ICE detainee locator only after checking the identifying data and transfer entry. If the record says federal rather than immigration custody, use the Bureau of Prisons or the federal case record instead.
